Meet Horatio

I have had the amazing experience over the past few days of seeing and being very close to some amazing animals.  I was going to just make one post summing up everything, but then realized I had way too many photos for that.  So slowly but surely I’m planning to go through all of the photos and feature one or two animals per post.  I’ll start with Horatio, a Great Horned Owl.  He has lived at the zoo from a very young age.  Unfortunately he suffered an injury making it impossible for him to survive in the wild.  He seems to be doing fine in the zoo though!

I love his eyes!

And now for some profile shots.

And finally below you can get a better full body idea of what he looks like.

A Quick Wildlife Photoshoot

Thanks to my 365 day photo challenge at https://tookapic.com/jenniferfaye I have been taking so many photos recently and I love it!  I took my camera to work with me last night, and went out during my break to see what I could find.

Mostly I captured birds, but this one squirrel was very curious as to what I was doing it seems.

1

I almost didn’t share this pigeon because I’m not too happy with the composition, but I just love the eye.

2

The following photos are all of Purple Martins.  They were everywhere!  And not very shy.

For all of you Disney fans, this one below is standing on an “I’m Celebrating” button.  I was so focused on the bird that I didn’t even notice until afterwards when I was reviewing the photos.  I wish I had caught it sooner to get a clearer angle.

And I think this last one might be my favorite.  Not necessarily because of the quality, but the story.  There was a larger bird (a Raven I think) standing on a light post directly above.  He kept dropping crumbs and hitting this guy on the head.  This was his reaction.

As always, thanks for looking!  Feedback and comments welcome!

Birds

I love going outside every day and taking photos of the beautiful things I see.  I have many photos of all kinds of flowers and critters, but today I wanted to share a few birds.  I didn’t have to go very far for this first friend below.  He had gotten himself trapped in the screened in area with our pool.  I wanted to help him out but decided to snap a few pictures first, because I rarely get the chance to be so close.  So here he is perched on some framing.

The bird was absolutely beautiful as he was, but I thought it would look pretty artistic with some black and white edits.

After only a few minutes I put the camera away and transitioned to the rescue mission.  He was being so still and reserved I thought I could just pick him up, but didn’t want to risk startling him.  I grabbed the pool net, and much to my surprise he just walked right on and sat patiently as I walked to the door at the other end of the enclosure.  As soon as were were outside I put the net down close to the ground and he flew away.  Very quickly and very far haha.

This next bird had been flying around my neighborhood for a while.  I’d seen it many times without my camera, but finally I caught him (Or her.)  I caught it having a snack and was so glad to finally have a photo of it.

5

And then it happened again!  I had my camera and saw him fly by on a second occasion.  I followed it around from tree to tree for a while, but it flew away he went when I got close.  Finally he decided to stay in one spot long enough for me to get a picture.  Of course he wasn’t really staying here for me, he just wanted a snack.

6

And speaking of having a snack, I caught these two for just a brief moment on a nearby roof.  I’m not sure if they were sharing or arguing over the unlucky insect, and they didn’t stick around long enough for me to find out.

7

These next two photos are ones that I took as contenders for my daily posts, but decided to go with other images.  I still really like both.  There is just something so peaceful about the solitary birds free, for the most part, of any distraction.

I love shooting wildlife!  And hope to someday soon be able to get better equipment to capture these moments in better detail.  I’ll post again soon with other critters I see from day to day.  Thanks for looking!

A New Online Photo Community–Tookapick

Hello, and happy Tuesday!  I want to share some photos today that I’ve been working on as part of a new project.  The website tookapic is a photo community that encourages taking and posting a photo every day for a year.  A 365 day project.  I just have to say that it has been wonderful to have this goal of a daily photo for myself.  I have been shooting more the past 3 weeks than I have in a really long time, and I’m super excited with some of the images I’ve been fortunate enough to capture.  Another wonderful thing about this community is that I see new photographs every day from amazing photographers all over the world.  I will make periodic posts here with photos I’ve added to tookapic, as well as some photos that maybe I didn’t get to use.  I’m only allowed to post one photo a day, but sometimes it’s hard to choose just one if I’ve ended up with several that I like.  Today I’m sharing photos of flowers and plant life, stay tuned for more updates!  Or feel free to check out my page here https://tookapic.com/jenniferfaye

I’m Back!

Hello!  I know I haven’t created a post in a very long time.  And the more time that has gone by, the harder is has become to start up again.  However, this blog is something that I was really excited about and so I have decided to give it another go and try to start posting again.  My laptop crashed a few months ago, but I’ve finally replaced it so I thought it was a great time to try and start fresh so here I go!  I am taking a slightly different approach, however.  I initially intended for this to be a blog for my photography.  While I absolutely love photography and will be posting lots of my work, I have so many other creative interests that sometimes I get started on another project and don’t take as many photos for a while.  So I’m going to from time to time post other projects that I’m working on.  I will focus more on getting regular posts made than including tons of photos for every post.  I have worked on a lot of fun things since my last post, so my next couple of posts will be all about catching up.  But for this first one back I just wanted to post a few pictures that I took yesterday, of one of my favorite subjects, a dandelion.  I’m a big fan of nature, and I take a lot of photos outdoors.  Thanks so much for checking my page out, and “Make a Wish”

Flower and Garden Part 2–A Few More Details

Here are a few close up shots of the flowers I came across.  It was pretty windy out and I tried to get as close as I could with my lens, so focus isn’t as sharp as I’d like it to be. A Macro lens is definitely on my wish list.
